Virtual Conference for Invisible Illness Week

Just a quick reminder that as part of Invisible Illness Week I will be holding a virtual conference on Blog Talk Radio on Friday, September 12 at 3pm Pacific time. The topic is “Friendship, Dating and Marriage: Can You Keep It All Together When You’re Young and Chronically Ill?”

Directions for how to listen to the presentation online and how to call in and ask questions can be found right here. I hope many of you will call in and make this conversation more dynamic!!

Lastly, because I can’t just leave you without any good reading material, check out this Boston Globe article on a new study that shows numbers dwindling for primary care doctors. One of the major reasons cited? The strain of chronic disease patients.

  1. Laurie,

I found this article really interesting. I have seen the decline in Gen Med/Internal Med docs first hand. It is a scary thought that the very people who are supposed to be our gatekeepers and help guide us to our specialists are dwindling.

I have really enjoyed the IIAW conferences and I plan to be there to listen to you tomorrow when you speak. What a terrific resource for all of us, and way to go to Lisa for putting it all together and to you for being a part of it!

Thanks for the advice on what you do for a living and what I could try to do. I have set up a blog today and I hope you’ll check it out. I will be in touch again soon.

  2. I am also chronically ill and twenty something. I look forward to hearing you speak tomorrow and to reading your book! Thank you for your blog. Being young and chronically ill is so difficult but it also enables us at a young age to make a difference in our health care system in ways we wouldn’t have realized if we were healthy! http://ChronicIllnessSurvival.blogspot.com/

  3. Hi Laurie,

I’m excited to hear you speak today! I’m hoping I can listen live, but might have to catch the show later.

    Best,

    Sarah
